I used to think art was all about the final polished piece. I still find value in a beautifully curated gallery, in the great masterpieces, and all the perfectly honed skills of other artists. However, somewhere along my way I realised that what I had been chasing wasn’t the creation, but the creating.
Art making is my language, not because of what it produces, but because of what happens in the process. The ink that flows and the ink that spills. The glass that is sturdy and fragile, liquid and solid, molten and cold all at once. When I’m making something, I’m not performing or communicating outwardly, I’m simply spending time with my inner self - my thoughts, my hands, my senses, my emotions. All of me, all at once.
What I share here, in the form of glasswork and illustrations, is a byproduct of that process. Not a finished portfolio or a curated statement, only the results of time spent with myself. They are shared in the same spirit I try to bring to the therapy room, that is, with a little less judgement and a little more honesty than usual.
I continue making now and I hope to make more in the future. I display it here because I can’t ask others to express themselves and be vulnerable if I’m not willing to do the same.
